                                                                                                                                                                                                      Goat island camping and accommodation
Goat Island Marine Reserve is one of the most popular attractions in the Auckland region
Picture
Goat Island Camp overlooks this area, it is a short ten minute walk to the beach. This reserve is one of the most popular attractions in the Auckland region. The beach is safe to swim at, so you can hire a set of snorkel gear at the camp or bring your own, swim out to the island just a hundred metres offshore. The fish are the world's friendliest fish and everywhere! You may also hire a Kayak and take yourself exploring around the island.
Maybe you would just like to stay dry?.. sit back and take the Glass Bottom Boat tour instead.

Some Ideas ..
Most of our regular visitors to Goat Island Camping are familiar with the fun attractions around Goat Island and Leigh, our local village.  If you are from further afield or maybe overseas, there are so many sights and activities for the visitor within a half hours drive. Here are a few of the possibilities to occupy your day, assuming that you don't want to just sit in the shade with a wine and a book.

One of many .. If you wish to take a walk up and along the cliffs, there are fabulous views out to sea, The Hen and Chicken Islands, Little Barrier Island.
Fantastic fish and chips in the village afterwards? or a BBQ back at camp?

Surf 'n' Sand.
Like to surf? Pakiri beach is a ten minute drive away
over the hill, beautiful white sand and surf. Horse riding is a little further along on the beach and worth checking out.
Fishing is good around the area (not in the reserve of course) from the rocks all up and down the coast, maybe even gather some shellfish at the Tawharanui estuary ten minutes away, it is a good spot to have a wander at low tide.

Horse Riding at Pakiri Beach.

Market Wanderings.  There are market days in the nearby village of Matakana with some nice pubs and cafes. Warkworth is the main town that is closest and about twenty five minutes drive. more great shops to browse around, art galleries and more cafes boats and a boardwalk along the riverbank right in the town centre.
Go a little further and you are at Puhoi an historic little town with a great atmosphere. Take the trip down the Puhoi river by canoe .. great fun.

Vineyards
There are many vineyards in the area that you may be interested in visiting, many with cafes and tasting available.
What you will find though, is that back at your campsite there are many friendly people who will be able to offer other suggestions on what to do .. or you could just sit in the shade with a wine or a beer and a book....
